In the summer transfer window, the Scotland internationals joined the EFL Championship team.

This month, he earned his debut for his country as a late substitution in a 3-2 Nations League loss to Poland. Ahead of Saturday’s derby matchup with Sunderland, Carrick has asked supporters to exercise patience with the Scottish talent this season after missing the majority of the previous campaign due to injury.
