Lubo Moravcik announces his team of choice for Celtic’s matchup against Slovan Bratislava, the Slovak champions.

Celtic legend Lubo Moravcik finds himself in an unusual situation tonight as he anticipates his old clubs taking on a Slovakian team that is participating in the Champions League for the first time.

Slovan Bratislava has a rivalry with Nitra, the club from his hometown, with whom he played for eight years total across two stints and is currently a board member.

Nevertheless, Glasgow is arguably the city where the 59-year-old is most respected, having elevated himself to the status of a folk hero there with his incredible goals and style between 1998 and 2002.

Expect the visitors to attempt and compete head-to-head with Brendan Rodgers’ team, as Moravcik has already given Celtic a sense of what to expect from Slovan Bratislava, saying they would be “known for playing attractive football” under Vladimir Weiss.

The former Slovakian international has now revealed a hint of his emotional state ahead of this evening’s match between their two universes.

In an interview with Celtic FC Podcast, Moravcik disclosed that, despite his admiration for Slovan Bratislava’s historic qualification, he will lean somewhat more towards the green and white corner tonight.

“Celtic is among the top 36 teams in Europe, which is fantastic and I’m thrilled about it,” he remarked. As I mentioned at the outset, I would really like to see the greatest Scottish team play the best Slovakian team.

Naturally, it’s difficult for me to pick my favourite team for that game because, as I should disclose to everyone, I’m a Celtics fan first and Slovan Bratislava is my home team and the best team. However, since I played for Nitra, Slovan has always been a fierce adversary to both my club and me.

“For that reason, I believe I should be a fan of Slovan as well, although I believe I will be a Celtic supporter the most (or more inclined to be).”

Moravcik, though, will undoubtedly enjoy the moment along with the rest of us when Celtic play Slovan Bratislava this evening. Since European matches are more prestigious than regular season fixtures, you should definitely attend them.

Given the away team’s accomplishments in the context of Slovakian football history, it is obvious that he has a great deal of respect for them. It’s really astounding considering they have never reached this point previously.

But tonight on the pitch, Celtic will be more than willing to give them a reality check. With any luck, the home team can win all three points!
