Shawcross to lead coaching team for Fleetwood fixture

The interim Stoke City coaching staff will be led by Ryan Shawcross when the squad plays Fleetwood Town tonight.

As the Potters look to advance to the Carabao Cup last 16, Alex Morris will be the former Club Captain’s assistance in the dugout.

“Even though the situation is difficult, I am excited about the chance to lead the team in tonight’s game, and I will make an effort to enjoy it,” the 36-year-old stated.

“It means a lot to me to represent Stoke City in this manner, and I have the utmost love and respect for our amazing supporters.”

“The prize at stake this evening is significant, and the work the team has done to get to round three, with young sides overcoming contests against Carlisle United and Middlesbrough, has been impressive.”

The game starts at 7.30 p.m. at ST4 and Shawcross, who made 451 appearances for the Club between 2007 and 2021, will coach against Charlie Adam, his former City teammate.

Charlie has represented the Club 179 times between 2012 and 2019, therefore he doesn’t require an introduction at the bet365 Stadium.

“Some of our most prosperous seasons have coincided with his tenure at the Club, and I’m sure he’ll be warmly welcomed back to ST4”

“The team we choose will need to be at the top of their game if we are to advance in the competition; they will definitely step up for the occasion against Championship opposition.”
