Brendan Rodgers Sets Out Celtic’s Champions League Aim

Brendan Rodgers Sets Out Celtic’s Champions League Aim.

Brendan Rodgers is entering the Champions League with high hopes for Celtic, targeting the playoff phase.

In anticipation of Celtic’s home opener against Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday night, Rodgers voiced optimism about the team’s chances of winning the redesigned competition.

As he began his fourth group stage campaign, Parkhead manager stressed the importance of starting the season strong. He talked about the possible momentum that comes from winning the Champions League back-to-back. He brought up the season-ending match against Feyenoord, where Lagerbielke’s late goal gave Celtic their first home victory in the competition in over a decade, as well as the likely first-round win over Bratislava.

In his description of the competition’s structure and the fresh difficulties it brings, Aaron Rodgers implies that he and his Celtics teammates want to make it to the postseason this year.

“That would be a great first step for us. As I said, there are eight brilliant games, intense games, great competition. So we of course clearly would want to do that.

“And, of course, winning the Champions League back-to-back. We won our last game at Feyenoord, so it would be great to come out on top and win again. That way, everyone would be in a positive frame of mind for the remaining games.

I think getting to the playoffs should be our primary priority. I think your primary objective is to advance to the play-off stage if you look at the clubs that make it past the eight games. That would surely be my top aim when I create goals, and you could judge it from there.

Celtic has every chance to place high enough to qualify for the play-off round and advance to the round of 16. With a win over Bratislava, the team will have a big lift going into the Champions League. Rodgers and company will then have a difficult trip to Dortmund.

Wednesday’s kickoff is at 8:00 p.m.Celtic Stadium.
