‘Magic’ – West Brom boss Carlos Corberan picks out ‘excellent’ player after Portsmouth win

‘Magic’: West Brom boss Carlos Corberan picks out an ‘excellent’ player after Portsmouth win.

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan has labelled Alex Mowatt’s level of finishing against Portsmouth as’magic’.

West Brom won 3-0 at Fratton Park to extend their impressive start to the new Championship season.

In the first minute of the Baggies’ match against Pompey, striker Josh Maja gave them the lead. The visitors then added two more goals, one of which came from a free kick, thanks to midfielder Mowatt.

Corberan stated on the team’s official website following the game: “Alex Mowatt’s level of finishing for his two goals was excellent and magical.” We hope he continues to provide us with this calibre of performance because we know he is a very excellent finisher.

“The fact that we currently sit atop the table demonstrates how crucial it is to compete with the proper mindset. It is tough to win these games if you don’t play with the proper mindset. Although we are aware of how tough this competition is, every player should be aware of it as well.

“Every opponent will try to make things harder on us. Only the things within our control are worthy of our attention. If we want to keep getting outcomes, we need to remain focused.”

West Brom man hailed

West Brom’s win at Portsmouth means they are now top of the table above Sunderland.

It has been an excellent first five matches for the Baggies and they are yet to lose.

However, they won’t be letting their egos get in the way and will be motivated to maintain their current level of consistency.

Since joining The Hawthorns in 2021, Mowatt has made 89 appearances across all competitions and contributed eight goals.

The good news is that he signed a two-year contract extension this past summer, so his current agreement expires in 2026.

The man, who was raised in Doncaster, went through Leeds United’s academy before making his first team debut.

He made his Barnsley debut in 2016 after 125 games with the Whites.

Before joining the Baggies, Mowatt played for Oakwell for five years, spending a portion of that time abroad on loan at Oxford United.

He was loaned out to Middlesbrough a few years back because he took a bit to get used to life at West Brom.

Corberan has since given him a fresh lease of life, and these days he’s playing some of his greatest football.

What next for West Brom?

They aim to maintain their momentum when they return to action this weekend against Plymouth Argyle at home.

However, given that their next opponents are coming off a 3-2 victory against Sunderland, it won’t be an easy encounter.
