Scott Parker pinpoints key ingredient that earned Burnley ‘a’massive’ win against Leeds United

Scott Parker said that Burnley’s “massive” victory over Leeds United was a result of their tenacity, will, and never-say-die attitude.

Luca Koleosho’s solo run and finish helped the Clarets take all three points at Elland Road, dealing an early blow to their rivals for promotion.

Despite James Trafford being in outstanding form in goal, Leeds ended up with 71% of the possession in the game, but the Clarets were able to hold them at bay for the most part, particularly in the second half.

Parker’s team controlled the game well and displayed a far more realistic side to themselves than we’ve seen in the last year or two, even though they rarely threatened themselves.

Parker remarked, “It’s a massive three points for us,” following the game.

“It’s a very, very huge three points; it’s obviously a challenging place to come, certainly for where we are and the stages of our development as well.

“We demonstrated every aspect of our team values—grit, determination, and a fighting spirit to the fullest—and that’s what ultimately won us the three points today. These were the foundations that got us the three points.”

The game’s most memorable moment occurred eighteen minutes in, when Koleosho took advantage of a slip to sprint seventy yards and shoot past Illian Meslier.

Parker went on, “It’s a brilliant finish.” Few are able to sprint 60 or 70 yards up the pitch at full speed and still maintain composure to complete the finish.

“I was delighted for him, I thought he was brilliant in his moments.”

While Leeds looked dangerous in the first-half, getting between the lines on a relatively regular basis, they barely threatened in the second-half and soon ran out of ideas.

Parker said, “I thought we started the game pretty well” in the first half.

“They have a great opportunity to score early on from a turnover from us, and we’re lucky enough that the boy doesn’t miss.”

“It goes without saying that we then push our way [into the game] and create a couple of half-chances, a header from Hannibal and a set-play for Joe Worrall. I enjoyed the simple things we had.

It’s reasonable to say that they gave us some trouble towards the end of the first half. There were some serious overloads on the left side of the pitch, so we wanted to address that at halftime.

“But we fixed that, and in the second half, the boys played the plan flawlessly.”

Joe Worrall pulled down Manor Solomon in the first half despite being on the wrong side of the ball, and Leeds thought that they should have had a clear penalty awarded.

To the ire of the home fans, referee James Bell, however, gestured firmly for a corner.

Parker responded, “I’m not sitting on the fence, but I haven’t seen it,” when asked what he thought about the event. I didn’t believe it was appropriate to be open with you right away. He appeared to have cut his toe on it.

“I don’t think I should have commented on that,”
