I wasn't ready:' Blackpool boss Steve Bruce shares emotions following return to football

Steve Bruce returned to football management on Saturday after nearly two years away, and his Blackpool team defeated Exeter City 2-1.

Prior to his two-year contract at Bloomfield Road, the veteran coach had been out of the game for a long time after being fired by West Brom in October 2022.

James Husband scored from close range to give the Seasiders three points, barely minutes after Edward Francis leveled for the visitors.

Prior to it, Blackpool led for the most of the game thanks to a well-taken goal by CJ Hamilton in the first half.

Following the game, Bruce talked about how he felt after returning to the bench.

“I’m delighted to be here, I’d like to personally thank all the fans, they made it a great atmosphere – it’s nice to be appreciated,” remarked the footballer.

“I’ve really missed the game of football. I missed Saturday afternoons and what they were all about. It is what I do, and I was not prepared to retire.

“I had to turn down a number of offers, but everything seemed to be in order here.

“I’m delighted to be given the opportunity, and after a week, I can already see we’re a very fine club.”
