How Leicester City’s Tom Cannon fared on Stoke City debut

Tom Cannon of Leicester City made his Stoke City debut during their 1-0 away loss to Oxford United on Saturday.

Steve Cooper declared Cannon surplus to requirements, therefore he signed on loan to the Championship side until the end of the campaign.

Due to a dearth of offensive options, the Foxes were hesitant to let Cannon go, but they eventually finalized his exit when they signed Odsonne Edouard on loan from Crystal Palace.

After domestic football resumed this past weekend, Cannon was thrown right into the action for his new team.

What was Tom Cannon’s debut performance for Stoke City?

Stoke viewed Cannon’s acquisition as a huge coup after outbidding many Championship rivals for his services.

Stoke manager Steven Schumacher offered Cannon a start on his debut and an opportunity to lead the line as a token of their faith in him.

Unfortunately, the 21-year-old’s debut was one to forget as he failed to motivate his new colleagues to victory, losing 1-0 away to Oxford, where Ben Nelson, a fellow Fox, was not used as a substitute.

The Republic of Ireland international struggled to get into the game and was substituted off in the 73rd minute after only four touches in the first half and six more in the second.
