The passing yesterday was a patchy effort, but there were also some extremely well-executed moments. A little rusty, but never truly in danger

Though an international break may often be a momentum killer, Celtic managed to contain the impact of a squad that was deployed to all four corners of the world yesterday. The international break occurred just four league games into the domestic season.
Hearts gave their best display of the year, but in the end, a performance that alternated throughout the afternoon between breathtakingly brilliant and agonisingly reckless, leading to yet another rewriting of this Celtic side’s history, undid them.

Despite the fact that there were obviously mitigating circumstances—the majority of Celtic’s players hadn’t been together since they bid farewell to each other after the Glasgow Derby victory—the passing was obviously out of sync on multiple occasions. Yes, the training session that took place at Lennoxtown on Friday was the

Indeed, Celtic has an opportunity to clear their head before the Champions League season begins now that the “nice to see you again” game is over and a 118-year-old clean sheet record has been added to the record books.

In defence, Celtic were solid, with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales refusing to let the excellent Kasper Schmeichel pick the ball out of his goal. And even in situations where it looked like the net might bulge, Schmeichel seemed to take it personally that anyone should even try to score past him, to the point where his presence caused Hearts to fluff their lines when opportunities did arise. In midfield, Arne Engels produced a Man of the Match performance, giving Celtic an interesting glimpse into what to expect from a record transfer fee expenditure.

The potential for growth is clearly evident in Engels, having just turned 21, but even the unfinished article looks ready to shine immediately. His willingness to step up from the penalty spot shows an inner confidence and a calmness exemplified by the staggered run-up and cool execution from 12 yards.

Luke McCowan is a footballer that allows the Celtic supporters to experience the dream through a virtual lens. Following up on his incredible Glasgow Derby debut yesterday, the former Dundee guy and Celtic supporter made sure this one was not ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’.

While McCowan, may be tempted to split his goalscoring bonus with Craig Gordon for the Hearts man’s assist, he scored his first goal for the team and demonstrated to some oddly shy teammates that it is worthwhile to take a shot at goal when you can see even a glimpse of the net and the playing surface is wet and greasy.

Despite a little rustiness, Celtic dominated significant portions of the game and should be applauded for that. They may have started a little slowly and needed too long to finish the contest for me to feel completely at peace watching this one.

Naturally, there were the customary “controversies,” with Hearts manager Naismith shoving his hands in the aftermath of the game due to inconsistent refereeing, but the officials called both “contentious” handball instances exactly.

Steven Naismith talked about his talk with Brendan Rodgers before Hearts’ Celtic Park defeat in the afternoon.

With the 2-0 victory, Celtic leads Rangers by eight points going into their afternoon trip to Tannadice, while Hearts are now eight points above the bottom of the Scottish Premiership.

When asked about his lengthy conversation with Brendan Rodgers after the game, Naismith, the Hearts manager, acknowledged that he had a “nice moment” with the Celtic manager. However, he would not reveal the contents of their conversation.
