Luke O’Nien wrote a 25-word letter to Sunderland supporters following the team’s Championship loss to Plymouth Argyle.

Following a foul in the box by Bali Mumba, Chris Rigg won a penalty kick, which Patrick Roberts scored to give Sunderland the lead midway through the first half.

Dan Ballard, who was powerless to save the own goal, unintentionally turned Anthony Patterson’s excellent save into the net, giving the Black Cats a 1-0 advantage going into halftime.

After Ballard fouled the area, Ryan Hardie’s penalty gave the home team the lead with 73 minutes remaining. Four minutes remained in standard time when Romaine Mundle gave Sunderland an equaliser.

However, Wayne Rooney received his first league victory as Plymouth’s manager, while Régis Le Bris suffered his first Championship defeat when Joe Edwards scored in stoppage time.

Luke O’Nien wrote a message to Southampton supporters on social media following the game. He expressed his gratitude to all of the fans that travelled to see @sunderlandafc on Instagram, saying, “We couldn’t give you the result you deserved, but we will be back.”

“We scored twice away from home, which is not easy,” Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris said during the Black Cats’ 3-2 loss to Plymouth Argyle. “However, even though we thought we had the game under control in the first half, they still had a lead and we weren’t playing at our best.”
