Jhon Duran scored his third goal of the season in Aston Villa's win over Everton

According to Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, Jhon Duran has the potential to be one of the world’s top attackers provided he stays grounded.

Villa defeated Everton 3-2 at Villa Park, with the 20-year-old scoring his third goal of the season in impressive fashion. He hammered the ball past Jordan Pickford from about 30 yards out to complete Villa’s comeback. Sky stated it was the longest-range goal of the Premier League season thus far.

Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored for the visitors, putting Villa two goals down after 27 minutes. Ollie Watkins brought Villa back level with two goals each side of the interval, before Duran scored the winning goal. It had his teammates, especially Martinez, flabbergasted. The World Cup champion was seen on television with his hands on his head and his mouth wide open, shocked by what he had just witnessed.

“I saw it from behind and the ball was moving; it was unstoppable,” Martinez told Premier League Productions. “It was an excellent strike. We’ve been trying to aid Duran in the Premier League, and if he can maintain his consistency, he might be a major danger.

“He has the potential to be one of the world’s top attackers, but he must maintain his composure and work hard. He has one of England’s best attackers, Ollie Watkins, in front of him.”

Martinez remarked of the encounter in general: “It was a shock [to go two goals down]; we were controlling the game.”

“I believe the first strike of the game went between the legs, and they were ahead 1-0. With the second free kick, they go up 2-0. But it demonstrates how far we’ve gone as a club, and we earned three points.”
