A journalist argues for a £30 million Nottingham Forest player who has “shown promise.”

After three Premier League games, Nottingham Forest has won one and drawn two, making an undefeated start to the 2024–25 season. After the Reds and Wolves tied 1-1 on Saturday, all eyes are now on the international matches that will take center stage.

Thirteen Forest players are now serving as internationals with the hopes of representing their nation; one of them, Morgan Gibbs-White, was called up by England. The Premier League season has seen some incredibly impressive performances thus far, and Forest appears to be in good shape following a successful transfer window.

Abraham Sangare is one player who has been playing well, yet oddly, the fan base continues to have contradictory opinions about him.

Ibrahim Sangare, a star for Forest, receives a verdict from John Percy.

Sangare has won 15 tackles so far this season, more than any other player in the Premier League. However, some supporters still feel that it falls short. The Reds midfielder had a terrible first season at Forest the previous year, and he lost weight due to an illness.

Percy has now shown some sympathy to Sangare at his doorstep in an effort to keep him grounded and disprove his detractors. “I must admit, I do feel sorry for him,” he said to the Forest Focus podcast. I must admit, with a raised hand, that I truly feel awful for him. Although I am aware that he hasn’t yet played his greatest football, I believe that his performances this season have shown promise.

“He is there to execute a job; he is not here to make headlines, and he is not this N’Golo Kante type who would take the ball from you and run 30 yards with it. It’s almost like the Brian Clough saying, “Get the ball off someone and play it to someone else.” That doesn’t lessen the loss of Sangare, of course, but working with him requires some patience.

Sangare requires time and patience at Forest.

Right now, the Ivorian seems to be receiving a bit of a harsh deal. Despite having made the most tackles in the league, some people aren’t convinced. Some of the criticism he still receives is almost absurd. Sangare has made significant progress, and with more playing time, he ought to keep becoming better. He still has time on his hands at age 26, but it seems that some people still think that because he cost £30 million, he should perform tasks outside the scope of his employment. This is where Percy died. He’s working, and at this point, some of the criticism he receives on social media is just odd. Fortunately, Nuno Espirito Santo does not choose his squad based on remarks made on social media, and perhaps Sangare can continue forcing hatred down the throats of fans this season.
