West Brom: Tom Fellows asserted with consideration for Crysencio Summerville and Jack Clarke
Many predicted Carlos Corberan’s team to keep making an impact in the second division after missing out on promotion through the play-offs the previous season, and they have done just that in the opening month of the current campaign.
Naturally, The Hawthorns saw a fair amount of player turnover this summer as many seasoned players looked for new challenges after their contracts expired. Meanwhile, the Spaniard made several shrewd transfers that brought in players like Gianluca Frabotta, Callum Styles, and Torbjorn Heggem to join Mikey Johnston and Mason Holgate, who were returning to B71.
The West Brom fan pundit for FLW, Callum Burgess, understandably feels that the player who offers Albion the most potential clash in the upcoming months and years is 21-year-old Tom Fellows, a winger who attracted interest from Southampton, Ipswich Town, and Everton during the just ended summer transfer window.
“Personally, I would value him at the £20m mark at the moment,” he claimed. “If he continues his good form, then he could progress towards the fee that (was paid for) Crysencio Summerville – I believe that was around £25m.”
Burgess concluded: “Either way, we’ll be looking at a really big fee for Tom Fellows, if he continues his good form.”
Tom Fellows is having an incredible season.
The wide player, who made just 14 Championship starts last season but impressed last term, has been the subject of much hype in this part of the West Midlands, and he has now managed to secure a starting spot from the start of the campaign.
It was quickly revealed by Tom Collomosse of the Mail that Fellows would be staying with his boyhood club until a significantly improved offer was forthcoming from either the Tractor Boys or Southampton, with the latter having a £10m bid rejected by the Baggies. It had been reported that the former Crawley Town loanee was in advanced talks with Ipswich on Deadline Day ahead of a £11m move.
According to a TEAMtalk report, Albion currently values the winger at £15 million. However, given his performance thus far this season—three assists in the first four league games, for example—Fellows has a good chance of pushing that price up to £20 million if he continues to contribute a lot of goals.
Having agreed to a contract extension through June 2027 earlier in the year, his current employers are also not under any pressure to part with their highly valued asset. This will be important information for any future positions they take in the transfer market.
