Tottenham tipped to challenge Manchester United in transfer scramble for bargain free agent deal
A number of players have been connected to the Euro 2024 star, including Spurs and the Red Devils.
Even though the transfer window is closed, teams are still searching the free agent pool for the best players to sign.Tottenham Hotspur has added five players in the summer, but as the competition to sign Turkey international Yusuf Yazici heats up, they may have to face an old opponent.
Manchester United and Spurs are reportedly among the “many” Premier League teams interested in signing the free agent, whose contract with Lille expired in July. Football Insider reports claim that Aston Villa and Newcastle United have expressed interest in Yazici in addition to Spurs and the Red Devils, with the latter two reportedly “monitoring” the situation.
The 27-year-old midfielder has not been able to find a new club since leaving the Ligue 1 team this summer, despite ongoing interest from throughout Europe.
Although the Premier League seems to be showing more interest in the midfield player, Galatasaray is reportedly leading the chase to sign Yazici, who finished the previous season with 42 appearances for Lille with 12 goals and 4 assists.
Postecoglou added Swedish 18-year-old Lucas Bergvall and former Leeds United player Archie Grey to the mix during the summer transfer window, but given their combined age of 36, it’s possible that the Spurs head coach is looking to add some much-needed experience to the middle of the pitch.
Conversely, Manchester United lost out on Scotland international Scott McTominay at the close of the summer transfer window and are presently battling with Mason Mount’s injury, which is reducing Erik ten Hag’s options in central midfield. Yazici’s free transfer could potentially alleviate midfield worries for both Premier League teams while also adding some competitiveness to the squads.
Having grown up in the Trabzonspor academy system, the offensive midfielder made his initial move to Lille in 2022 in a transaction estimated to be worth €17.5 million (£14.7 million). In 267 appearances overall, the international has scored 64 goals, and in 45 international games for Turkey, he has scored three goals.
