Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney-built Wrexham a ‘threat to all other teams’ – with Red Dragons backed to sustain promotion challenge in League One

The Wrexham squad constructed by Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney and Phil Parkinson is considered to be “a threat to all other teams” in League One.

Hollywood’s co-owners have invested substantially.
Experienced manager calling the shots.
In the chase for the third consecutive promotion.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Red Dragons have proven this throughout the first few weeks of the 2024-25 season. Four games have been completed without defeat, resulting in a total of 10 points. The only goal difference is to keep them off the top of the standings.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

During the summer, Parkinson conducted more strategic recruitment, adding depth and quality to his ranks. He also has prolific frontman Paul Mullin ready to return to the starting lineup once he recovers from injury.

WHAT PHILLIPS SAID

With the Red Dragons flying high and fellow promotion hopes Peterborough being defeated 2-0 last time out, former Wrexham midfielder Wayne Phillips sees no reason why a push for back-to-back promotions cannot be sustained. He told BBC Radio Wales Sport: “This team is undoubtedly capable of posing a danger to all other teams in this league this season. I’m not getting carried away after four games this season; I said these things before a ball was kicked. The team’s shape [against Peterborough] was outstanding, and they handled pressure brilliantly.”

WHAT NEXT?

Parkinson will be looking to keep the early momentum going when cross-border rivals Shrewsbury visit SToK Racecourse on Saturday. As the only top-five team in action this weekend, a point at home will be enough to keep Wrexham at the top of League One after five games.
