Dan Neil has discussed Jack Clarke’s transfer to Premier League Ipswich Town in great detail.
Dan Neil has disclosed the reactions of Sunderland’s locker room to Jack Clarke’s exit.
During the summer transfer window, the former winger for Tottenham and Leeds United was acquired by Suffolk Town in the Premier League for a reported fee of approximately £20 million, which included a 15% sell-on clause.
Last season, Sunderland’s reliance on the 23-year-old for assists and goals was well-documented. Clarke finished the campaign with 19 goal contributions, but the Black Cats, led by interim manager Mike Dodds, concluded the Championship in a disappointing 16th position.
Though left-winger Romaine Mundle is prepared to step in, Sunderland team captain Neil claims he has no issues with Clarke’s move to the Premier League and commended the squad for their current transfer window strategy.
It was evidently difficult to accept.First and foremost, I believe that he was a truly smart person. Clarke said on BBC Radio 5 live, “He got along with all the boys and was really good to have around the dressing room.” Again, though, when you get Jack the ball, anything can happen since he was a bit of a maverick on our team the previous year.
“You saw that last year with his goal contributions, but I believe that he should be in the Premier League first and foremost.” We all knew that he deserved it and should push himself in the Premier League, therefore I don’t think anyone took offense when he departed and moved to the league.
To the club’s credit, we signed Romain Mundle in January of last year, and so far this preseason, he’s been among the greatest players I’ve worked with in training. Furthermore, Jack Clarke might not have had the opportunity if he had stayed. But when Romaine entered, he seized the opportunity. He scored twice, against Portsmouth and Burnley.
There is a lot of rivalry for that spot because we brought in Wilson from Zenit on loan along with a few other boys.However, as I previously stated, Jack deserved that move, and we had no issues with his departure. We only wish him the best.
