CASPER De Norre has acknowledged that the departure of Zian Flemming represents a significant loss for Millwall – as he revealed how close the pair are off the pitch.
Flemming, a Dutchman, left the club on transfer deadline day, signing a season-long loan deal with Burnley that will become a permanent £7 million transfer next year.
Reflecting on Flemming’s departure, Belgian De Norre praised his old teammate.
“He’s an excellent player and a dear buddy of mine. We live in the same apartment building, speak the same language, and he’s a fantastic teammate and character in the group, so his departure will be a loss for us,” De Norre told NewsAtDen.
“He’s a tremendous personality on and off the pitch, so losing someone like that would undoubtedly have an impact. However, I believe that with the new individuals coming in, we have partially compensated for his loss.
“I think we will be ready with the squad we have for the first part of the season.”
De Norre admitted, “Zian will be a miss both on and off the pitch.”
De Norre has been in contact with Flemming after his departure to the Clarets.
“Me, Zian, and Connal [Trueman], we have a car school,” De Norre remarked. “Every day, we drove to training. In our WhatsApp group, we discussed how things went and how he’s doing. I believe he is looking for an apartment there. Things are going nicely for him right now.
When questioned if Flemming’s departure surprised them, De Norre stated that they had expected it to happen.
“When we drove back on Friday after training, we knew it could be done,” De Norre told me. “He wasn’t sure if he would travel to Burnley at the time, but we said our goodbyes in case he did.
“I believe we will see each other again in the next few weeks since he has to come and move his belongings out of his flat. “Hopefully, we’ll see him again then.”
Millwall had a difficult deadline day. While Flemming was on his way to Turf Moor for a medical, the Lions were completing their record-breaking purchase of striker Mihailo Ivanovic from Vojvodina in Serbia. Both transactions were formally confirmed after the 11 p.m. deadline, after Josh Coburn’s arrival earlier on Friday.
“I didn’t stay up to watch it all,” De Norre admitted. “In the group chat with Zian, we received updates on his condition as it occurred throughout the last few hours. Josh was already in training. I believe Mihailo arrived late, but we were expecting him. I didn’t purposefully stay awake.”
