Jeff Stelling has confessed that he worries how Leeds United supporters would react to fresh PSR developments at Leicester City.
The Premier League (September 3) stated that an independent challenge Board upheld the Foxes’ challenge against an alleged infringement of PSR, potentially avoiding a points punishment.
Although the alleged financial infraction occurred while Steve Cooper’s team was in the Premier League, talkSPORT anchor Stelling has stated that Leeds supporters may feel badly done by following the recent revelation.
On talkSPORT on Wednesday (4 September, 8:10), he stated that Leicester City successfully appealed against an alleged infraction of profitability and sustainability regulations.
“The appeal board’s ruling effectively kills their chances of receiving a points deduction this season.
“I wonder how and I’m not saying it is the same situation, but I wonder how fans of Nottingham Forest for example or Leeds United or Everton are going to feel about this.”
Have Leeds United followed PSR following the summer transfer window at Elland Road?
While a points punishment for Leicester City this season would not have had a significant impact on Leeds, the new additions at the King Power Stadium may cause some dissatisfaction around Elland Road.
In order to comply with financial fair play regulations, Daniel Farke’s team had to sell Archie Gray early in the summer transfer window. However, other teams may spend freely without consequences.
While it should come as no surprise to fans that the football world is not being handled equally, it is upsetting for them to witness what looks to be a double standard when it comes to punishment.
Daniel Farke is in his second season as Leeds United’s manager.
Of course, we don’t know the specifics of Leicester’s scenario or how it compares to teams such as Nottingham Forest, Everton, and the Whites. However, there appears to be little consistency.
Hopefully, a better solution will be developed sooner rather than later, as the present PSR strategy has not worked as well as it should.
