Former manager of Birmingham City, Newcastle United, Wigan Athletic, and Sunderland takes over League One team

Eight months into an eighteen-month deal, the 63-year-old former Manchester United defender quit his most recent position at West Brom in October 2022.

“I’m delighted to be back in football and to take charge of this fantastic football club,” Bruce stated. “I look forward to meeting all of the staff and players in the coming days as we prepare for what we all hope will be an exciting season at Bloomfield Road.”

He began his 26-year managerial career at Sheffield United, where he oversaw more than 1,000 games. During that time, he oversaw four promotions from the Championship to the Premier League.

He spent two years, including the pandemic, with Newcastle, holding his final position in the top flight.

Owner of Blackpool, Simon Sadler, stated, “I’m confident that Steve’s experience and leadership qualities will be a tremendous asset.” “We were drawn to him in large part because of his organized approach and willingness to develop a diligent and amusing side.

Bruce played for Wigan for the first time at the conclusion of the 2001 season before leaving to play for Crystal Palace that summer.

After Latics had a disastrous start to the 2007–08 season, he was recruited back. He led the team to safety and an 11th-place finish the next season before departing once more, this time for Sunderland.
