An EFL commentator warns West Brom about Carlos Corberan by citing “Leicester, for example.”

After such a great start to the season, EFL analyst George Elek thinks West Brom will have to fight to keep Carlos Corberan at the team.

When the Spaniard took over as Baggies manager in October 2022, the team was in the Championship’s relegation zone and was having difficulties.

Even though they had a disastrous start under Steve Bruce, Albion made tremendous progress under his leadership, pushing for the play-offs in his debut season and finishing fifth last time around despite losing to Southampton over two legs.

West Brom, who are currently in second place after four games, have amassed ten points from Corberan, suggesting that neither player nor the busy summer transfer season has affected them.

Carlos Corberan for West Brom

Carlos Corberan backed to be a Premier League manager

Naturally, Corberan’s efforts at The Hawthorns will have drawn attention. Earlier this year, there was speculation that Corberan was a candidate for the Leicester City position, but Steve Cooper ended up taking the post.

In an interview with the Not the Top 20 podcast, Elek also talked about how highly he regards Corberan and how he thinks Albion would struggle this season because of high-level interest in the manager (42:35).

“I’ve said it for so long,” he murmured. For instance, Leicester, a team at the bottom of the Premier League, has Steve Cooper, who deserves a lot of credit and has done an incredible job with Forest in the past. However, Corberan was linked to them, and I believe he is a perfect fit for that position.

Maintaining hold of him will be a challenge for West Brom.

Corberan would have thought that with the takeover, he would be able to invest and stop losing players, but that hasn’t happened. However, he’s just a master tactician when it comes to enhancing each player’s unique performance and moulding them into a well-oiled machine, which is exactly what they are at the moment.

West Brom must match Carlos Corberan’s ambition

Although this is not what West Brom supporters would want to hear, the most of them would concur with Elek’s assessment, and the truth is that Corberan is demonstrating his ability to be a manager at the greatest level.

His work with Huddersfield was excellent, as they made it to within one game of the Premier League. Although his time at Olympiacos was unsatisfactory, he has shown himself with West Brom.

As previously said, he is a tremendously astute tactician who has assembled a really talented West Brom team on a shoestring, and they have been especially brilliant this season.

Thus, interest will inevitably arise, but Albert won’t get alarmed; in fact, it will benefit the team because it will demonstrate that they have an excellent manager in place.

Shilen Patel is unlikely to leave, especially this season, if he can help Corberan do everything in his power to lead the team back to the Premier League. After all, they will have to meet his goals.

Following the international break, Albion returns to action at Portsmouth.
