Wrexham have adapted well to life in League One and sit joint-top of the table.
Wrexham were promoted from League Two last season, alongside Stockport County, Mansfield Town, and Crawley Town. They have 10 points from their first four games of this season.
Phil Parkinson used the transfer window to sign Ollie Rathbone, Mo Faal, George Dobson, and Dan Scarr, among others. The Welsh club also parted ways with Aaron Hayden, Luke Young, Ben Tozer, and Jordan Tunnicliffe to make room for their new signings.
The Red Dragons are level on points at the top with Stockport County and Birmingham City. They’re riding high after two consecutive promotions.
The next match comes at home against Shrewsbury Town this Saturday. In the meantime, here is a look at three players they will be disappointed to miss out on.
John McAtee
Wrexham were interested in signing the Luton Town attacker this summer. However, he ended up joining fellow third-tier team Bolton Wanderers, which was disappointing.
The 25-year-old, who previously played for Shrewsbury Town and Grimsby Town, spent last season on loan at Barnsley. He was a hit with the Tykes, scoring 13 goals in 40 games to help them reach the playoffs.
Niall Ennis
On deadline day, the Red Dragons were connected with a late move for Stoke City’s striker, as were Barnsley. He ended up staying at the Bet365 Stadium past the deadline last Friday, though.
The former Wolves player would have provided Parkinson with additional competition and depth up front, and he is a proven goal scorer at his level. He scored 24 goals in 97 games in all competitions during his Plymouth Argyle career, but has struggled to hit form during subsequent stints with Blackburn Rovers and the Potters.
Louie Marsh
Marsh is highly regarded by Sheffield United, who elected to keep him despite interest from other clubs. Wrexham were suggested as potential suitors, with Plymouth Argyle, Stockport County, Huddersfield Town, and Rotherham United.
He would have added talent to the Red Dragons’ roster and has a promising future in the game. It wasn’t meant to be, but he’ll be eager to force his way into Chris Wilder’s team at Bramall Lane.
