Tottenham have agreed to sign forward Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth, according to the PA news agency.
Spurs have been looking for attacking reinforcements all summer, and after Solanke emerged as the club’s top prospect, advanced negotiations with the Cherries began.
They have now quickened, and conversations over a fee were concluded on Friday afternoon, with Tottenham poised to invest an initial £55 million to get Solanke’s talents, with an additional £10 million included as add-ons, according to PA.
Solanke, a one-cap England forward, missed Bournemouth’s friendly win over Rayo Vallecano last Sunday due to a minor foot ailment, raising questions about his future.
Bournemouth owner Bill Foley announced earlier this summer that Solanke’s current deal until 2027 contains a release clause of around £65 million, and his expected departure will be a club record sale for the Cherries.
Bournemouth’s previous greatest departure was Nathan Ake, who moved to Manchester City for £40 million in 2020. Postecoglou approved Spurs’ pursuit of Solanke following the 26-year-old’s greatest season ever.
Solanke scored 21 goals in all competitions for Bournemouth in 2023-24, 19 of which came in the Premier League, but he also impressed with his pushing statistics and link-up play for Andoni Iraola’s side.
Solanke’s projected move to Tottenham will provide him with another shot at a top-six club, having come through Chelsea’s system as a teenager before leaving for Liverpool in 2017.
While Solanke’s opportunities at Anfield were limited, he has played an important role in keeping Bournemouth in the Premier League over the last two seasons and is now eager to seize what he sees as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Postecoglou was tight-lipped on Solanke when he spoke to the media on Friday afternoon, but Iraola was more forthcoming, admitting he would be a “big miss” for Bournemouth. “I expected it to be the first question! “I know talks are going on,” Iraola told a press conference.
“Dom is a really valuable player for us. “Everyone is focused on the goals he scores. He scores a high percentage of our goals, but he provides much more than that.
He is really complete; he assists us in all facets of the game. He would undoubtedly be a big miss. “He scored many goals, but if something happens, as it has in other places, we must trust the people within the club. I am confident they will be ready.”
While Solanke prepares for a medical at Tottenham, Bournemouth is looking for a successor, and PA understands they have been actively working on options for Solanke with the possibility of him leaving following a successful season.
