Todd Cantwell back in Rangers training as wantaway star triggers return talk

Todd Cantwell has returned to Rangers training after two transfer requests.

The Ibrox midfielder expressed his desire to leave the club and informed boss Philippe Clement of his intentions to do so later this summer. However, photographs from this morning’s training session at Auchenhowie show the former Norwich City playmaker being put through his paces, despite his recent demands.

Gers face Motherwell in their first “home game” at Hampden Park tomorrow afternoon, prompting a surprise recall to the first-team rumours. Following their 2-1 loss to Birmingham City at St Andrew’s last month, Clement surprised the fans by revealing Cantwell’s wish to leave the club.

The manager did, however, make it plain that the 26-year-old would still be a part of his squad if he choose to reverse his request. He stated at the time: “As long as a player is present and we trust in his abilities, the door is always open.

“But, of course, we need to focus on the men who are fully committed to the club and earning success in the next few weeks. So, we’ll see what happens.

Rumours circulated this morning that Cantwell had talked with Trabzonspor officials following a private meeting.
