Everton striker target left in limbo as £26m deal now there to be hijacked

One week remains until the new Premier League season begins, giving Kevin Thelwell and Everton the opportunity to renegotiate a deal and capture his top striker target.

Everton transfer news

Even in the absence of a resolution to their ownership issues, the Toffees have performed admirably in elevating Sean Dyche’s team this summer. They’ve signed players like Jesper Lindstrom, who recently made his unofficial debut against Preston North End and scored a spectacular free kick, Jake O’Brien, and Iliman Ndiaye.

Even though they welcomed the impressive three, Goodison Park has managed to cling onto Jarrad Branthwaite thus far. They let Aston Villa get Amadou Onana, but they haven’t wavered when it comes to their emerging talent.

They might not finish their transfer window there as well. The Merseyside club has reportedly been linked to additional offensive reinforcements. There have been talks about players like Armando Broja, who is probably going to leave Chelsea in the near future. However, there might be another London-based player that steps up this month to provide Sean Dyche an offensive boost.

Director of football Thelwell has reportedly voiced his enthusiasm for Eddie Nketiah and is driving Everton’s pursuit of the Englishman, according to Sebastien Vidal. According to David Ornstein, the forward for Arsenal, who reportedly makes £100,000 a week in North London, has decided to sign a loan-to-buy agreement with Marseille that would ultimately cost €30 million (£26 million).

But even if Nketiah and Arsenal approved the transfer, the Ligue 1 team hasn’t yet made the deal, with Ornstein saying that the “ball now in Marseille’s court.”

It must be acknowledged, though, that it’s unclear if Everton will be able to complete such a trade this month given their financial worries. Investing £26 million alone could be problematic, and that’s before factoring in Nketiah’s high salary. But if Thelwell forces the team to pursue his top target, who is presently lying in limbo after Arsenal approved his exit, Marseille would have the chance to hijack the situation because they are procrastinating.
