Fulham make first move to sign Diego Carlos from Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s Diego Carlos is first targeted by Fulham.

Diego Carlos Aston Villa

Diego Carlos, a defender for Aston Villa who is open to moving, has reportedly shown interest in joining Fulham, according to the Daily Mail.

The publication stated on August 2 on their website that Carlos is Fulham’s next center-back target, following Jorge Cuenca, who is completing his transfer from Villareal to Craven Cottage.

The 31-year-old made 38 appearances for the Villans in the last campaign, but he’s willing to transfer in pursuit of more first-team opportunities, and European teams are showing interest in him.

Diego Carlos desires to depart this summer from Aston Villa.

After moving to Aston Villa for £28 million from Sevilla in 2022, Carlos has had a difficult time.

The Europa League champion signed with Villa Park as a headliner for former boss Steven Gerrard, but he would have to wait until March to play for Unai Emery after rupturing his Achilles tendon in August.

Despite playing a lot and being injury-free the previous season, the Brazilian scored five goals against Crystal Palace while beginning Villa’s season-ending match against them under Emery.

In addition, he was given a red card in the preseason 2-0 loss to RB Leipzig after receiving two yellow cards. Given his impulsive nature, Emery appears to have reached his limit.

With Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa as their favored duo, Aston Villa has no shortage of center backs. Last season, they qualified for the Champions League.

The £26 million the Villans paid for him in 2022 will be lost, but it seems like a fair price to pay to let go of a big earner with little future in the team.

Since a transfer benefits all sides, this transaction may be finalized sooner rather than later as Aston Villa works to assemble a team strong enough to contend in the Champions League this year.
