As the BBC issues a ‘don’t repeat’ caution and a complete apology, Michael Stewart fiercely defends his Todd Cantwell swearing.

Michael Stewart reiterated the radio slur he used to describe how the Light Blues dressing room could view the wanted Rangers midfield player in a fictitious Todd Cantwell scenario.

The 26-year-old English midfielder submitted a transfer request, according to manager Philippe Clement, despite not playing a single minute of the preseason. Cantwell was dropped out of the matchday squad for the Gers Premiership opener against Hearts at Tynecastle. He was also left out of the squad for the pivotal double header with Dynamo Kiev in qualifying for the redesigned Champions League. Cantwell has been linked to the Saudi Pro League team Al-Qadsiah.

Not one to hold back when speaking, pundit Stewart used a profanity during a live radio interview. This led BBC announcer Kenny MacIntyre to ask listeners not to repeat the colourful word choice made by the former Jambos star. “I think it depends on the actual character,” Stewart stated in a BBC Sportsound interview. I myself would hope that he may be convinced to stick around if he’s considered a strong team player and a good lad. If you don’t really like him and he’s a bit of a p****, you might be thinking, “I’d prefer he leave the dressing room,” rather than have him in there.”

The presenter MacIntyre was alarmed by the vulgarity and added, “Don’t repeat what Michael said, but we know what you meant.” The former midfield player then retaliated, saying, “There is nothing wrong with that, Kenny, surely?”

During the halftime break at Tynecastle, MacIntyre moved to apologise after the swear word started trending on social media. He continued: “You’re listening to Sportsound on the opening weekend of the league season, goalless at Tynecastle, we want to apologise for any offence caused by language in the pre-match chat that was before kick-off.”
