Jamie Carragher makes Everton admission after Liverpool accusation by Gary Neville

After Gary Neville called Jamie Carragher one of the “biggest traitors” in sport, the player acknowledged that he was still enjoying his Everton victories at the beginning of his Liverpool tenure.

When the former Manchester United defender pointed out to the Sky Sports pundit on The Overlap on March 14, he responded, saying it was a “set up” because he had switched from being a childhood Toffees fan to an Anfield player.

Carragher acknowledged that he was a “massive fan” growing up and that, if he hadn’t ended up playing for the Reds, he would currently be in the Goodison stand.

What are the biggest football traitors Carragher, had asked? Then Neville spoke up: “May I begin? Carragher. Liverpool to Everton.

According to Carragher, this is a set-up. You know what, the cab driver who brought me here today was an Everton supporter. I was sitting in the back thinking, “That’d be me,” as he was talking about how his son was making fun of him for essentially raising him as an Everton fan.

“I would be in Gwladys Street if I wasn’t a player for Liverpool. It’s funny because, as a diehard supporter, I always wanted Everton to win derbies, even when I was playing for Liverpool reserves.”

He detailed his delight on the 1996 opening day when the Toffees were winning against Newcastle, despite being on the bench for a heavy Liverpool defeat to a Fabrizio Ravanelli-inspired Middlesbrough.

Sky Sports pundit admits he would be watching Everton at Goodison Park still if not for Liverpool career

Carragher is one of the most well-known players who, although not the only one, ends up at a significant rival of the team they grew up supporting.

The fact that the regulations, which have already resulted in the club being found to have over expenditure caps twice, are about to be eliminated, won’t have pleased supporters any more.

It’s common to believe that Everton wouldn’t have such a difficult time if they had a well-known pundit supporting them the way some do for teams like Manchester United and Liverpool, but Carragher is now deeply ingrained on the opposing side of the Merseyside derby, despite his initial strong ties to one side.
