‘I would not be surprised’ – Journo shares new prediction over exit-linked Everton star

Joe Thomas claims that Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who earned his first international call-up, has the potential to captain England in the future.

The 21-year-old centre back, who has excelled under Sean Dyche this season, received his first England call-up from Gareth Southgate for the March international matches at Wembley against Brazil and Belgium.

While Thomas, a journalist for the Liverpool Echo, hasn’t addressed the rumours that Branthwaite is heading to Manchester United this summer, he did acknowledge that he thinks the centre defender has a “bright future.”

Writing for the Liverpool Echo on Friday, March 15, he stated: “I’ve had the good fortune to speak with Jarrad multiple times, and what has most impressed me is his temperament.” In interviews conducted after games, he comes across as a grounded individual who is honest and seems to be growing into a leader in the locker room.

“He has a bright future ahead of him, and it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest to see him pull on the England captain’s armband.”

In light of Manchester United’s transfer interest, would Everton be able to retain Jarrad Branthwaite at Goodison Park?

Everton’s season at Goodison Park hasn’t been easy; point deductions, profit and sustainability levies, and 777 Partners’ postponed acquisition have made things very tough on the blue half of Merseyside.

However, despite all of Dyche’s team’s suffering, Branthwaite has been a beacon of success, consistently putting up fantastic performances at the centre of Dyche’s defence and displaying maturity beyond his years.

The Toffees have become difficult to beat thanks to Branthwaite’s extremely productive center-back combo with James Tarkowski. Relegation worries this season would have been significantly worse without the two.

It remains to be seen if Everton will be able to hold onto the future England captain past the end of the summer, but an England cap would only increase the attention that the 21-year-old will get in the upcoming transfer windows.
