If Everton or Nottingham Forest are relegated at the end of the season, Keith Wyness has stated that the Premier League will become a “laughing stock.”
The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite teams after serving as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, stated the present set of financial regulations are “not fit for purpose” in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
Everton’s points deduction for violating the Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) this season is already six (down from ten after an appeal).
The Toffees and Nottingham Forest are now facing a separate charge, and any penalties are anticipated to be deducted from their respective 2023–24 point totals.

With ten games remaining, Sean Dyche’s team leads 18th-place Luton by four points, while Forest trails the Hatters by three points.
Wyness stated on the Insider Track podcast of Football Insider: “My sense is this…The hearings were, I believe, held both this week and last week.
According to the calendar, any appeals must now be heard during the final week of the season, or potentially the week after its conclusion.
It will be absurd if that occurs.
Because relegation could be decided after the season, the league will be a laughingstock.
“Time is not on our side. It is entirely the Premier League’s fault.
“It gets even more annoying if all these appeals happen, which they very well might.
“There’s also the fact that new regulations are being implemented, which amply demonstrates that the existing set of regulations is inadequate.”
