Sunderland rocked by new injury blow as defensive crisis deepens
Jenson Seelt, the Black Cats’ defender, might be out for a while.
Sunderland has already been severely impacted by the injuries to their star defenders, but now they have received devastating news that Jenson Seelt will be out for an extended period of time.
In a social media post, the 20-year-old Dutchman said that his knee injury versus Southampton “took me by surprise.” This season, Seelt has made 17 appearances for Sunderland. Since joining from Dutch team PSV Eindhoven in the summer, he has made 11 starts, but it now appears unlikely that he will play again this year.
“I’m devastated to inform you of the news,” the center back wrote on Instagram. “I’m going to be absent for a while. I must put all of my attention into my recuperation for the time being and make every effort to return stronger and better than before. Every challenge we face in life offers us opportunities to learn and transform it into something positive.
Thus, Sunderland’s defensive dilemma has gotten worse. For Saturday’s home match against QPR, interim head coach Mike Dodds will only have one center-half available.
Due to the suspensions of Luke O’Nien and Dan Ballard, Seelt has been called upon in recent games. Niall Huggins, Dennis Cirkin, and Aji Alese continue to be long-term absentees. Additionally, O’Nien, who is still suspended, and Ballard, who was forced off against Southampton last week due to a hamstring injury, will not be playing for Rangers.
