Sunderland manager hunt updates: Dwight Yorke application, Roy Keane hint, and Mike Dodds verdict.
We have rounded up some of the latest news and views on the Black Cats’ managerial situation.
Sunderland are searching for a new manager after sacking Mick Beale.
Mike Dodds appears to be in control for the rest of the season, but it does not appear that the current interim manager will be promoted to the permanent position at the Stadium of Light.
To be fair to Dodds, he has been forced to cope without Jack Clarke, who is now out due to an ankle ligament injury.
He is not anticipated to return soon, and with that injury arguably contributing to recent bad performances, the 37-year-old might lose his permanent position on Wearside.

Other managers have already been connected to the position, although it may be some time before an appointment is confirmed for next season.
Following the terrible choice to replace Tony Mowbray with previous boss Beale, significant figures such as Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Kristjaan Speakman just cannot afford to make another bad managerial decision.
Another poor decision might send the Black Cats backwards, which would be a pity given how hard they battled to climb out of League One and establish themselves as one of the best teams in the Championship.
The Wearside club’s supporters will be keeping a close watch on events, and we’ve compiled some of the most recent information on their managerial predicament.
Dwight Yorke applied for Sunderland Joe.
Yorke, a former Black Cats attacker, has told the Sunderland Echo that he has applied for the top position at the Stadium of Light. Despite his minimal management experience, the former Trinidad and Tobago international believes he would be an excellent match for the second-tier club. He stated, “I’ve always kept an eye on Sunderland, simply because I had a successful time there.” Even though I was toward the end of my career, getting them promoted and playing a role in things was probably one of my proudest accomplishments, in the sense that my role as a player had evolved.I was startled by how huge the club was when I arrived, but the fan base is fantastic. It’s a fantastic stadium with an excellent setup, and I can only suppose that the amenities have improved much more in recent years.
“Seeing manager changes, watching the team push for promotion, being relegated to League One, I’ve seen enough Sunderland to know precisely what’s going on up there.
“To be honest, I recently submitted in my CV to the club because I want the position.
“I know enough of Sunderland; I lived in the area for nearly three years, and so I understand the culture up there, and what the supporters want and expect from that team, and what the team means to them.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Roy Keane tweet amid Sunderland connections
According to Nick Barnes of the BBC, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expressed interest in being the club’s future manager during a recent appearance on the Total Sport show (source: Sunderland Echo).
Barnes stated that Roy Keane has shown a desire in coming to the Stadium of Light, but may be unable to do so if the current owners stay in place.
These are two quite intriguing potential scenarios, however it is unclear whether either is being examined.
Keane joked on Instagram, uploading a snapshot of himself and Solskjaer with the caption: “DM us if you’re looking for a manager.”
