According to insiders who spoke to Football Insider, Newcastle United and Arsenal have received encouragement to pursue Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande.
On Monday, March 11, Football Insider disclosed that Diomande’s transfer to Chelsea may not go through.
The Blues will now need to sell players before confirming any new additions this summer. The team was hoping to get an early-window deal for the 20-year-old, giving them an advantage over their competitors.
Football Insider has been informed by a reliable source that the center-back, who has performed admirably for Sporting in league and European play this season, will likely cost around £51 million this summer.
During the 2023–24 season, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Newcastle have all seen the Lisbon club’s center-back in action.
The fall of Chelsea makes it possible for Newcastle and Arsenal to sign £51 million star Diomande.
Even though the young defender from FC Midtjylland only arrived to Portugal last year (2023), he is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after defenders in the world.
In 27 games during the 2023–24 season, Diomande has two goals and one assist.
Earlier this year, he represented champions Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations held in his home country. He has earned four caps for his nation.
Newcastle hopes to bolster their defence this summer following a disjointed 2023–24 campaign.
With ten games remaining in the current season, the Magpies are currently ranked 10th in the Premier League standings after blowing out of the Champions League during the group round.
