Five Sunderland loan players who have expressed desire to return including Man Utd duo

Five Sunderland loan players have voiced their wish to return, including a Manchester United tandem.

They warn not to fall in love with a loan player, but what if the loan player falls in love with the club?

Sunderland has made effective use of the loan market throughout the years, loaning out some players who went on to sign permanently and others who became fan favourites during their short time on Wearside. Every now and then, Sunderland loans a player who exceeds all expectations, and naturally, Sunderland fans want the club to sign these players on permanent contracts, and when these players express their wish to return, it adds fuel to the fire.

Here are five players that wished to return to Sunderland after a successful loan term.

Yann M’Vila

The French midfielder joined Sunderland in the summer of 2015 and quickly became a fan favourite, making 37 games and guiding the club to Premier League safety under Sam Allardyce. M’Vila was linked with a return to the Black Cats during each transfer window until he recently signed for Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion. The French international has yet to play for the Baggies.

Marcos Alonso

Signed in January 2014, the Spanish left defender helped Sunderland reach the Carabao Cup final and contributed to the ‘great escape’ under Gus Poyet’s management. After his loan agreement expired, Alonso expressed his wish to return to Wearside and has since written many messages to Sunderland supporters on his Instagram account. However, the Spaniard did not return to the club and has since played for European powerhouses Chelsea and Barcelona.

Jonny Evans

Between 2007 and 2008, the Northern Ireland international made 35 appearances on loan with Sunderland. After his second loan spell, Evans returned to Manchester United, where he has made over 200 appearances. Despite Evans’ decision not to return to the Black Cats, his younger brother Corry is the current club captain, with Corry claiming that Jonny told him “You’ve got to go” when he learned Sunderland had approached him.

Fabio Borini.

Despite Borini’s permanent return to Sunderland, supporters had to wait 12 months for his homecoming. Borini appeared in 40 games during his first time with the club, scoring 10 goals and assisting four, including the notorious Carabao Cup final strike against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

Amad Diallo

The Ivorian winger has made his feelings for the Black Cats clear, with Amad declaring on many occasions that he would be open to returning to the club, and his social media activity this week has left Sunderland supporters wondering once again. Amad made 42 games on loan with the club, scoring 14 goals and assisting four times. Sunderland fans will be hoping for a recurrence of the Borini situation.
