Rodgers’ return to Celtic hasn’t gone as planned, and a former Aberdeen CEO has unloaded on him in an unexpected rant.

Former Aberdeen manager Keith Wyness has criticized Brendan Rodgers and believes the Celtic board should make a move to prevent him from ruining the club.

Rodgers’ second term as Parkhead manager has been bumpy, and after previously holding a commanding lead at the top of the Premiership, they now face a struggle with a resurgent Rangers squad to recapture the title. Recent performances have been erratic, including a loss to Hearts two weeks ago and a late win against Livingston in the Scottish Cup.

Celtic fans expected a victorious return when the former Invincible Treble-winning manager was appointed as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement. However, their fate remains in their own hands. Wyness, who was Aberdeen’s CEO from 2000 to 2004 and had held senior positions at Everton and Aston Villa, recently unleashed an unexpected rant against the Irishman.

He told Football Insider that he would not be shocked to see a change in manager during the off-season. I’m not sure if Rodgers was the proper pick. It is not a cheerful ship. The failings appear to have occurred on the pitch. It appears that they have underperformed in certain critical games.

“If you are not first in Scotland, you are nowhere, and I believe the football side is where I would look for answers. I have no sympathy for Rodgers. He’s an experienced manager who knew what he was getting into.

“That was part of the appeal for him. I believe he’s on borrowed time. After such a bad start, it will be extremely difficult to recover. Even if he wins the league, I believe he will leave within a year or two.
