UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE: BENFICA BEAT RANGERS AT IBROX TO PROGRESS TO QUARTER-FINALS

Benfica crushed Rangers’ dreams of making it to the finals of the UEFA Europa League once more, winning 1-0 in Glasgow and 3-2 overall thanks to a single goal from Rafa Silva.

Under Philippe Clement, Rangers’ only loss in 32 games was this one. Now that they are in the quarterfinals, Benfica will wait for their opponents in Friday’s draw.

Glasgow’s torrential rain created hazardous conditions and little opportunities for either team, but Benfica pulled off a stunning comeback to win the match 20 minutes from the end.
After a Rangers corner, the visitors broke through, and Silva scored his 18th goal of the year by sweeping the ball past Jack Butland thanks to a header from Angel Di Maria.
