Sunderland transfer put on hold after yet another injury issue at Academy of Light

Sunderland move placed on hold due to yet another injury at the Academy of Light.

Sunderland’s goalkeeper Adam Richardson had to withdraw from a youth game due to an injury, according to the Echo.

Richardson was expected to start for Sunderland’s under-21s against Manchester City on Monday, but he was replaced by former Leicester City goalkeeper Kelechi Chibueze, with Dan Cameron on the bench after suffering an injury in the warm-up for Sunderland’s previous match against Nottingham Forest.

Graeme Murty’s youthful team drew 2-2 with Manchester City in the Premier League 2 despite Richardson’s (20) absence.According to The Echo, Sunderland considered loaning out Richardson to the National League at the end of the season to obtain first-team experience.

The 20-year-old played for Sunderland in pre-season under Tony Mowbray and was expected to join the senior goalkeeping squad behind Nathan Bishop and first-choice Anthony Patterson until suffering an injury toward the end of last summer.

Before his current setback, Richardson had recovered to fitness at the Academy of Light and played for Sunderland’s under-21 squad. The club is considering a loan move. However, given Richardson’s current concern, that move appears to be in severe question.

Sunderland’s under-21s will face Newcastle United on Monday at the Academy of Light. Jenson Seelt, a centre-back with the Black Cats, is expected to miss a significant amount of time due to an injury.
