Sunderland suffer ‘major injury blow’ ahead of fixtures QPR and Leeds United boost
This weekend, QPR travels to Sunderland in an ongoing battle to stay in the Championship.
With the news that the Black Cats would be missing center-back Jenson Seelt for their lengthy travel to the North East this weekend to play Sunderland in the Championship, QPR has gained momentum. The 20-year-old will miss a significant amount of time due to injury, thus the news for the Rs comes as a shock to both the player and the Black Cats.
The Dutchman suffered a knee injury in Sunderland’s 4-2 loss to Southampton, after starting the team’s previous 4 Championship games. Although the extent of the injury has not yet been determined, the defender’s tearful social media post suggests that it won’t be a serious one.
“I’m devastated to share the news that I suffered a knee injury during the game against Southampton,” Seelt posted on Instagram. I’m going to be absent for a while because this caught me off guard. I must put all of my attention into my recuperation for the time being and make every effort to return stronger and better than before. Every challenge we face in life offers us opportunities to learn and transform it into something positive.”
It presents a problem for Sunderland interim head coach Mike Dodds ahead of this weekend’s visit by Marti Cifuentes’ team to the Stadium of Light. Dan Ballard is a serious doubt due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the second half of the match against Southampton, while Luke O’Nien is suspended.
Without a doubt, the injury blow will inspire QPR and Sunderland’s forthcoming opponents. Michael Frey, Lyndon Dykes, and Sinclair Armstrong are physically strong strikers for the Rs who may pose a threat to opposing defenses.
Although QPR’s most recent home loss to Middlesbrough was at home, they will be encouraged by their recent road victories against Bristol City and Leicester City. The news of Seelt’s injuries will also intrigue Cardiff City, Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City, and Leeds United, teams who will be facing the team in the upcoming weeks and some of which need to win to stay in the race for promotion and relegation.
