The Sunderland loanee has picked up an injury ahead of the international break.
The break is slated to start after this weekend’s round of league games, so the Costa Rican international will be absent from his country’s upcoming schedule.
Costa Rica head coach Claudio Vivas has confirmed that Bennette will miss the play-off against Honduras due to injury, though the extent has not yet been disclosed.
Bennette’s injury will keep him out of the play-off match against Honduras, according to head coach Claudio Vivas of Costa Rica. The exact nature of the injury has not yet been revealed.
Due to Bennette’s paucity of playing time, the club and the player pushed for a loan transfer in January. Everyone wanted to see the attacking player get some experience before Bennette returned to the Academy of Light the following summer.
Bennette has only played twice for Greek team Aris since his summer transfer, and Clarke is now out due to injury at Sunderland. Clarke will be out for up to six weeks due to an injury to his ankle ligament.
The news left Sunderland short on attacking options with Bennette the obvious replacement for Clarke in the side had the forward been at the club still.
“Not really, I’ll be honest with you,” responded Dodds when recently asked by The Echo if there was any regret that Bennette had been loaned out in hindsight following the injury to Clarke.
“When the loan opportunity came up for Jewi, that was the right decision at that time and you can never predict or foresee the injuries that we have had,” Dodds continued.
Furthermore, we must act morally for the football team’s long-term survival. We must provide the appropriate development pathway for the young football players we have committed to in order to ensure their growth and development.
“I’ll return to the argument I raised regarding Jack Clarke. When he first moved into the building, Jack Clarke wasn’t Jack Clarke, so we gave him a development plan that was appropriate and has helped him grow.
“Sometimes that development plan might mean that the player needs to go out on loan and we have put that in place for Jewi and hopefully when he comes back, he comes back a better version of himself.”
