On Wednesday, the Silver and Black announced a few roster changes as the new league season got underway.
QB Jimmy Garoppolo, QB Brian Hoyer, WR Hunter Renfrow, and DT Jerry Tillery were released by the Las Vegas Raiders.
With the Raiders, Garoppolo played in seven games (six starts) and threw for 1,205 yards and seven touchdowns during his tenth NFL season. The New England Patriots selected him 62nd overall in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played for the team for four seasons (2014–17) and was a part of two Super Bowl winning squads (XLIX and LI).
In his 15th NFL season, Hoyer played for the Raiders for a single season. He played in three games for the Silver and Black in 2023, including one start. Hoyer has appeared in 79 games since joining the New England Patriots in 2009 as an undrafted free agent.
Renfrow played five seasons for the Silver and Black after initially being selected by the Raiders in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. After being only the third player in franchise history to collect 100 or more receptions in a single season—with 103 catches ranking second highest among Raiders wide receivers—the receiver was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2021. In his 73 games played, 23 of which he started, he has 269 receptions for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns in his career.
Tillery joined the Raiders in the 2022 season after being selected by the Chargers in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. During the course of two seasons, he participated in 25 games for the Silver and Black, recording two sacks, 31 total tackles, and one fumble recovery.
