Pundit touts Norwich City and Sunderland to join Celtic transfer race
Carlton Palmer has discussed the future of Mikey Johnston after his positive start to West Brom loan
stint
Since moving on loan from Celtic to West Brom in January, Mikey Johnston has only gotten better.
Since joining the team in the winter, the forward has played nine times in the Championship, solidifying
his place on Carlos Corberan’s squad (all statistics courtesy of Fbref).
In that time, he has helped the Baggies achieve promotion by contributing six goals and one assist.
West Brom’s top 5 Championship goals + assists (per Fbref.com, as of March 12th)
Player name | Goals | Assists | Total
1 | Grady Diangana | 7 | 5 | 12 |
2 | Brandon Thomas-Asante | 9 | 2 | 11 |
3 | John Swift | 7 | 1 | 8 |
4 | Jed Wallace | 3 | 5 | 8 |
5 | Mikey Johnston | 6 | 1 | 7 |
This will surely make him an attractive potential summer signing for Albion, as they will be seeking ways
to strengthen regardless of which division they’re competing in.
It remains to be seen whether Celtic would be open to a permanent sale, but he had fallen well down the
pecking order of Brendan Rodgers’ side prior to his departure.
Carlton Palmer issues Norwich and Sunderland warning to West Brom
Johnston’s effect at the Hawthorns this season has been lauded by Carlton Palmer, who thinks a
permanent transfer would be highly advantageous for West Brom.
He has, however, issued a warning that there will be fierce competition in the hunt to recruit the Celtic
winger this summer as he is expected to draw interest from many teams, including Norwich City and
Sunderland.
“Since joining on loan in the January transfer window, Mickey Johnston has continued to have a
fantastic season at West Brom. He scored his sixth goal for West Bromwich Albion in their most recent
victory over Huddersfield Town,” Palmer told Football League World.
