Nottingham Forest’s toughest fixtures compared to Everton and Luton in relegation battle

Nottingham Forest viewpoint: with ten games remaining, the Reds must battle to survive in the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest is fighting for its Premier League survival this season in a fierce relegation battle.

When the Reds returned to the top division last season, they managed to survive with one game remaining, but the 2023–24 season might come down to the final moments. With one more game played than Luton, who are in 18th position, Nuno Espirito Santo’s club is just three points above the relegation zone and has only won once in the league this season.

The FFP allegation that Everton and Forest received, which may lead to a possible point deduction pending the outcome of an appeal, is one element that might prove to be crucial. This season, the Toffees have already lost points due to a different offence; the Merseysiders’ original 10-point deficit was lowered to six following an appeal.

With ten games remaining, Forest, Everton, and Luton are embroiled in a fierce battle to stay in the standings. These are their five most difficult games left for the season.

Forest’s hardest five remaining games

  • Fulham (H) – April 2
  • Tottenham Hotspur (A) – April 8
  • Everton (A) – April 20
  • Manchester City (H) – April 27
  • Chelsea (H) – May 11

Verdict: On paper, home matches against a weak Chelsea team and Fulham shouldn’t be too difficult. The Blues have the talent to trouble most teams, though, and the Reds recently suffered a 5-0 loss to the Cottagers.

In addition, Forest will be overwhelming underdogs at home against title-chasing Man City and top-four contender Tottenham. April’s trip to Everton is expected to be a major test as well, as Goodison Park is expected to be unfriendly for the Reds in a crucial relegation match.

Everton’s hardest five remaining games

  • Liverpool (H) – TBC
  • Newcastle (A) – April 2
  • Nottingham Forest (H) – April 20
  • Chelsea (A) – April 15
  • Arsenal (A) – May 19

Verdict: On paper, the Toffees’ games against title-chasing Liverpool and Arsenal are tougher than Forest’s. They will also be travelling to Newcastle, who has only dropped three home league games this year.

Luton’s hardest five remaining games

  • Tottenham (A) – March 30
  • Arsenal (A) – April 3
  • Man City (A) – April 13
  • Wolves (A) – April 27
  • West Ham (A) – May 11

Verdict: The hardest games for Luton are away from home; they go to north London for back-to-back matches against Tottenham and Arsenal. Although West Ham has struggled under David Moyes this season, they are still sixth in the standings, thus the Hatters may have a difficult penultimate match.
