Following Roy Keane’s departure, former Manchester United manager has been linked with the Sunderland post.
A former Manchester United manager is expected to return to management after about three years away from the game.
A former Manchester United manager is being connected with a Championship position following a hiatus from the game. Tom Cleverly, a former Red Devil, has taken over Watford as temporary manager, joining Michael Carrick in the Championship.
Sunderland is seeking for a new manager after dismissing Tony Mowbray and Michael Beale this season. They are taking their time. Mike Dodds is now in charge on an interim basis and will stay so until the conclusion of the season, with the Black Cats projected to finish in the middle of the table.
With the Black Cats taking a cautious approach, several names have been connected with the post, with United icon Roy Keane still the choice, having led the team from the Championship to the Premier League between 2006 and 2008.
But Keane isn’t the only former United player in the running. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, an ex-United forward and manager, is considered the favorite to succeed Will Still, the popular Reims manager. The Norwegian has been out of management since departing the Red Devils after three years in 2021. During his tenure at the club, Solskjaer failed to win any trophies. He joined following two periods with home country club Molde, followed by an unsuccessful term as manager of Cardiff City, who were relegated from the top flight.
Solskjaer also supervised Cardiff’s dismal start to the following season, which saw them finish 17th, and this was his previous experience in Championship management, which Sunderland may take note of. Meanwhile, Steve Cooper, Scott Parker, and Frank Lampard are thought to be potential contenders for the post at the Stadium of Light.
