Five strikers soon to be free agents Sunderland should target – including Blackburn Rovers ace

These are the five free agency strikers that Sunderland could target in the summer: two players who have previously been linked to the team, a Premier League regular, and two international strikers.

Mason Burstow, who will probably return to parent club Chelsea, Nazariy Rusyn, who prefers to operate better from the left, Luis Hemir, who has struggled in his first season on Wearside, and Eliezer Mayenda, who is presently out on loan at Hibs, are the current Black Cats’ attacking options.

This season, Sunderland’s four offensive alternatives have scored three goals in total, a total sporting director Kristjaan Speakaman will undoubtedly want to increase. Sunderland will once more investigate the free agency market if they wish to avoid paying upfront money, as appears to be the club’s recent practice. Below, we look at five strikers that Sunderland may want to target because their contracts expire in the summer.

Aaron Connolly

The Ireland international striker joined Hull City in the summer from Brighton and has made 26 appearances so far this season. The 24-year-old enjoyed a successful start to his Brighton career with four goals and three assists in his first 29 Premier League games for the Seagulls. Connolly has scored eight goals this season and looks likely to leave the Tigers once his contract expires in the summer.

Sam Gallagher

The 28-year-old striker was linked to Sunderland in January, but a deal never happened. This season, Gallagher has made 16 appearances for Blackburn, scoring three goals and dishing out another two assists. Having made 257 appearances in the Championship and scoring 71 goals and providing 71 assists, the former Southampton striker is far from lacking experience.

Liam Cullen

The Welsh international has made 36 appearances for Swansea this season, scoring five goals and assisting four. Cullen has made 96 Championship appearances in his career with 15 goals and six assists. The 24-year-old can play on either wing or through the middle.

Oli McBurnie

It appears that the striker for Sheffield United will depart the Blades during the summer. In 16 games for the struggling Blades, who are presently bottom of the Premier League, the 27-year-old has made his debut. McBurnie has excelled in the Championship, scoring 44 goals in 125 appearances, but he only has four goals and two assists this season.

Divin Mubama

An additional player that Sunderland was previously connected to. When his contract ends, Mubama appears certain to depart West Ham in pursuit of playing for the first team. Although making 12 appearances for David Moyes’ team this season, the 19-year-old striker has not yet found the back of the net. In 90 appearances for West Ham’s under-18 and under-21 squads, the England under-20 international has scored 56 goals and provided seven assists, demonstrating his prowess at the young level.
