During the January transfer window, Celtic made the decision to loan away a number of players, and they haven’t stopped trying to reduce the roster since.
Those that left for other places in the winter were Mikey Johnston, Hyeokkyu Kwon, and Marco Tilio, which enabled Brendan Rodgers to reorganise his team before the second half of the season.
Though the Scottish market won’t reopen until the summer, the rotating Parkhead exit door hasn’t closed.
Israeli winger Lichel Ababa left Parkhead to sign a permanent deal with Major League Soccer team Charlotte FC, bringing the Bhoys a reported £10 million. The move was made due to Ababa’s well-documented off-field difficulties.
Naturally, Argentine left-back Alexandro Bernabei has also left, signing a loan agreement to play for Internacional, a major team in Brazil, through the end of 2024.
With the 23-year-old’s limited possibilities for regular minutes in Glasgow’s east end, Hoops manager Aaron Rodgers disclosed that he gave the player permission to look for fresh pastures.
“His chances, I could only be honest and open and say it would be limited here,” he declared. The club he travelled with, who had an Argentinean coach, offered him the opportunity to play regular football in Brazil.
Alexandro Bernabei, a Celtic loanee, had an odd air incident
In his 28 games in green and white, Bernabei managed one goal and three assists, although he never really got going at Celtic and was prone to some wayward moments with fleeting flashes of promise [Transfermarkt].
Last season, after sleeping in for a team meeting, he also got into a heated argument with Rodgers and lost his spot in the matchday squad for our season-opening 4-2 victory against Ross County.
It’s odd that the former Argentina Under-23 international is now at the focus of yet another odd circumstance after failing to make a trip from Amsterdam to South America in time for tonight’s (23:00 GMT) Copa Brasil encounter between Internacional and Nova Iguacu [Daily Record].
Bernabei’s debut has now been postponed since he wouldn’t have arrived in time to participate for his new team.
The source adds that he isn’t scheduled for their upcoming match against Juventude and might not play until after the international break.
It is noteworthy to note that there is uncertainty surrounding Bernabei’s involvement in the delay that will force the defender to bide his time until he has an opportunity to make an impression on his new endeavour.
However, unless there is some sort of miraculous turnaround, his Celtic career appears to be finished. Let’s hope he can make an immediate impact when the time comes.
