Alexandro Bernabei in post Celtic nightmare as left-back misses flight to new club

Celtic collapse Due to missing his travel to Brazil, Alexandro Bernabei’s debut for his new team will not happen until next month.

After struggling to establish himself at Parkhead, the Argentine left-back finalized a 12-month loan deal to Internacional last week. However, the £3.75 million defender’s trip to South America began strangely as he missed his connecting aircraft in Amsterdam.

The 23-year-old Bernabei’s debut against Nova Iguacu on the road in tonight’s Copa Brasil match has been postponed. The defender isn’t registered, thus he won’t be allowed to play in Sunday’s Gaucho state championship game against Juventude.

As a result, Bernabei’s debut appearance for International will now have to wait until after the international break. Before the Premiership flag-raiser against Ross County, Bernabei slept in for a squad meeting, earning him the anger of Brendan Rodgers at the beginning of the season.

“He has been brilliant in pre-season in terms of mentality and attitude, and I felt for him,” remarked Rodgers at the time. Whatever happened, the alarm did not go off on the very morning of the season’s first game. There’s no time for me to wait.

“The game can be over if you enter it late and aren’t ready. It is no longer there. We make a line beneath it. He is a decent man.
