The Green Bay Packers appeared to be headed for a rebuilding phase after moving quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets prior to the 2018 season. It was unclear if Jordan Love was the genuine deal.
Thankfully, Love was more prepared than most people thought to take over as the starting quarterback for the legendary team, therefore Green Bay’s decision to trade Rodgers proved to be the right one.
Love turned things on for the Packers in the second half of the previous season, and as a result, the team stunned the second-seeded Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the NFL playoffs, possibly pulling off the largest upset of all time.
The Packers were active this week when NFL free agency opened, making several significant additions, including safety Xavier McKinney, who turned to Twitter to announce his signing with Green Bay. The team is far closer to contention than previously believed.
In addition to acquiring McKinney, the Packers let go of running back Aaron Jones to make room for Josh Jacobs, who was previously with the Las Vegas Raiders.
It goes without saying that Green Bay recognizes this as a window of opportunity and is taking advantage of it by making some significant moves that will only increase the team’s prospects of winning the division next season or in the near future.
It will be intriguing to watch how these decisions turn out and whether Green Bay can maintain its position as an NFC powerhouse.
