Watford discussed possible deals for Chelsea midfielder and new Ipswich Town star

The Athletic has reported that Watford explored prospective recruits in January, including Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos and Ipswich Town loan sensation Kieffer Moore.

At one point, Watford appeared to be in a position to challenge for a play-off spot. But after a terrible run of late, they are now ranked 14th on the Championship standings.

As a result, Tom Cleverley was appointed temporary manager and Valerien Ismael was relieved of his responsibilities over the weekend. His job is to make sure the Hornets finish the season strong, with seven points separating them from the drop and thirteen from sixth place.

However, The Athletic has now brought attention to a few of the winter recruitment problems that finally led to their ongoing difficulties and Ismael’s departure.

They claim Watford talked about adding Chelsea prospect Andrey Santos and striker Kieffer Moore. Naturally, however, none would sign, with Santos moving to Strasbourg in France and Moore to Ipswich Town, both of whom were on loans, in hopes of winning a championship.

Since then…

Moore and Santos have had contrasting loan starts ever since they relocated.

As they compete for automatic promotion, the former has emerged as a new star for Ipswich Town, tallying six goals and one assist in nine Championship contests.

Regarding the latter Santos, he hasn’t been utilised off the bench in the last two games and has only made two substitute appearances in Ligue 1.

Watford’s ongoing decline has already been extensively documented, but with Ismael’s actions, perhaps they might salvage something positive by the conclusion of the season. The focus will soon shift to the upcoming season, and if they want to advance to the battle for promotion that they frequently find themselves in, they must make significant improvements.
