Ohio State began spring football practices this week. Everyone was anxious to see how the quarterback situation would play out throughout the first several days of spring training.

Ohio State’s quarterback competition features transfer Will Howard and third-year player Devin Brown.

Chase Brown, a member of the Eleven Warriors, shared a video on Thursday that contradicts popular belief that Howard will start Week One. Devin Brown was seen practicing handoffs with running back TreVeyon Henderson, while Will Howard practiced with running back Quinshon Judkins.

We may approach this in two distinct ways. One is that Brown is set to be the starting quarterback during spring practice, and it is his responsibility to lose. Brown is most likely getting first-team reps because he has been with the Buckeyes the longest of any quarterback in the room.

Spring practices have only been running for a few days, so there is minimal information available. Since Howard arrived on school in January of this year, it makes logical for him to be the backup.

Also, Jenkins transferred from Ole Miss two months ago, so perhaps the Buckeyes are grouping the transfers together and allowing the longest-serving guys, Brown and Henderson, lead the way.

Spring ball will be huge for both quarterbacks.

Spring practices will be critical for quarterbacks because they will be able to gain a competitive advantage and advance to fall camp if they demonstrate their ability to ball out.

Brown and Howard will fight for the starting quarterback spot, and both will need to learn a new playbook.

Howard was expected to adjust to a new club, but Ohio State’s new offensive coach, Chip Kelly, has introduced a new style that Brown will need to adopt.
