John Lundstram new Rangers contract is top priority as midfield star is ‘dying breed’
Barry Ferguson believes a new contract for the 30-year-old midfielder is a priority because his current one expires at the end of the current campaign.
Barry Ferguson, the former captain of the Light Blues, is certain that Rangers would do everything in their power to keep midfielder John Lundstram at Ibrox because he believes the player is a “dying breed.”
Under Steven Gerrard, the former Sheffield United player came on a free transfer; however, his contract expires at the end of the current campaign. Before becoming an indispensable player during the run to the Europa League final in Seville, Lundstram needed some time to settle comfortably at Rangers.
Lundstram struggled to recapture the form of the second half of his first season in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s first full campaign in charge but has been back to his his best under Philippe Clement. The Scouser netted in the Scottish Cup win over Hibs at Easter Road on Sunday and celebrated by pointing at the Rangers crest in a hint to supporters. And columnist Ferguson, speaking on Go Radio, said: “I think they’ll do everything they can to tie him down. He’s simplified his game. He’s got a brilliant energy level about him and looks like he’s a real leader.
