Former Ohio State star Chase Young has several suitors in free agency.
Former Ohio State defensive end Chase Young may not return to San Francisco, but he will have opportunities in free agency this summer to sign a very lucrative contract. Young, the former No. 2 selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, is likely to visit the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Tennessee Titans before deciding where he will play in 2024, according to NFL Network. These are the only three teams that have been reported, thus Young may join somewhere at a later date. Following their disastrous 2023 seasons, all organizations are looking for a No. 1 pass-rusher.
Young was drafted by the Washington Commanders after winning the Heisman Trophy in 2019. He enters the NFL with high hopes. He was poised to be the league’s top pass rusher after winning AP Defensive Rookie of the Year honors, but his career has been hampered primarily by injuries. Between 2021 and 2022, Young missed 22 games due to a damaged ACL and a ruptured patellar tendon. He appeared to be getting back on track before the start of the 2023 season, but as Washington decided to rebuild, Young was transferred out west. Young was an excellent rotational defensive end, but his output never lived up to expectations. In nine games as a part of the NFC Champion roster, he had 2.5 sacks and one tackle for loss. In Washington, Young recorded five sacks, six tackles for loss, and nine quarterback hits.

Carolina, who dealt top edge rusher Brian Burns to the New York Giants, may be in need of his services and prepared to pay a premium given their lack of draft money. Tennessee is under new administration with the dismissal of former Buckeye Mike Vrabel. Nashville’s pass rush has struggled over the previous two seasons, owing primarily to injuries and a lack of growth. Last season, Tennessee had 46 sacks, 23 of which were split between Denico Autry, who signed with the Houston Texans, and Harold Landry III. New Orleans, conceptually, is the ideal match for Young. Following a dismal performance in 2023, the Saints are anticipated to add to their core of pass rushers via free agency or the draft. Last season, the New Orleans defensive ends combined for just 14 sacks, with Carl Granderson accounting for 8.5 of them. Related: Multiple Buckeyes Sign New Deals.
